  1. Hyperoxia is not benign, extremes of ages appear most sensitive
  2. Absorption atelectasis with high FiO2 (>0.8) is real
    • clinical implications not clear
    • may be most relevant during emergence or post-operatively
  3. Risk of hypoxia probably outweighs risk of absorption atelectasis at induction
    • I will continue to pre-oxygenate with 10L 100%
  4. Decreasing FiO2 intra-operatively (where appropriate) may lead to a marginal gain in susceptible patients (e.g. elderly)
